With Shopify pushing strongly towards use of their Web Pixel API, it was difficult to track the Purchase event, which is the primary event that every merchant would want to see in their Analytics software.
In the earlier versions of the app we utilised App Theme Embed extension to insert Fathom’s script to storefront for Page Views tracking, Add to Cart event tracking. For Purchase event we relied on Script Tag API, but Shopify has been started deprecating it, hence the Purchase event was not tracked.
Shopify provides Web Pixel API, to track customer events like page views, add to cart, purchase. Fathom Analytics didn’t provide such API to track events manually.
We had to reverse engineer their script to be able to track these events inside the strict sandbox environment of Shopify Web Pixel.
As a result, we are now able to track the Purchase event as well.
